August 2-3, 2009, Arizona Continued

After the Grand Canyon, we stopped off in Flagstaff, AZ. and had some interesting (great) pizza at Oregano’s, an Italian restaurant in Flagstaff. When we left, there must have been 25 people in line. We then moved on to Prescott, AZ, where we visited the Palace Bar, a historic bar that was first built around 1850. The Palace Bar is located on Whiskey Row, in Prescotts Old Towne Area. ( Take note of the pic of the hold pistol and the accompanying caption.) The next day we had lunch at another historic location, Murphy’s Restaurant which used to be a general store.

August 3-6, 2009, Wild Horse Pass Canyon, Chandler, AZ

We have now arrived at Wild Horse Pass Canyon Resort in Chandler, AZ (just southeast of Phoenix). This is a very well-deserved stop before we make our journey home. The temperature was only about 114 degrees. Even so, it was a beautiful resort with lots of amenities. (Bryant stayed here on one of his tough government trips and wanted to return for our benefit.) On my birthday, August 5, we got up went horseback riding in the desert, had a companion massage at the spa, then lunch, then I had a pedicure. A great birthday! That night we had dinner at a local cowboy spot called Rustler’s Rooster in Phoenix (there was a live Texas Longhorn out in the front of the restaurant. What does that tell you?) Before leaving the Phoenix area we stopped off in Apache Junction to see my brother, Robert’s winter home.
