Contest Question in this AZ, OK, NM Post

August 6, 2009, Canyon De Chelly, Chinle, AZ

We are now off to Canyon De Chelly (De Shay) in Chinle, AZ but decided to stop off in Winslow, AZ on the way. Anyone who knows and loves the Eagle’s will know of Winslow so I wanted to see “Standing on the Corner” park created in honor of the Eagle’s song, “Take it Easy.” Unfortunately, I’ll now have a different view of Winslow when I hear the song. There’s not much left on the old Route 66 in Winslow but there is a bronze statue of a dude standing on the corner taking it easy! It’s kind of like going back to check on an old boyfriend or girlfriend. Some things are best left to the imagination. But this I know is true; the Eagle’s put Winslow on the map with “Take It Easy.” We spent the next day checking out Canyon De Chelly which is in northeast Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation. It is very pretty there though not as awesome as the Grand Canyon.

August 7, 2009, Albuquerque, New Mexico
We’re off to Albuquerque, NM. On the way we had dinner at The Bluffs, a steak and seafood restaurant in Farmington, NM. Hazel says the filet mignon may be the best she’s ever had. Bryant agreed it was darn good. I stuck with good seafood. While in Albuquerque we did lots of shopping and ate lunch at the Church Street Café. Albuquerque is much bigger than we realized and the city sits right at the base of beautiful mountains. Will one of you smart people tell me why Albuquerque has an 18 MPH speed limit?

We spent the night in Amarillo, TX. Said a quick hello to Cousin Monica in Panhandle, TX before heading off to Oklahoma City, OK. Great Hooters wings!

August 9, 2009, Oklahoma City, OK
While in Oklahoma City we were so happy to have dinner with our good friend Christopher Hopkins and his friend Katie. Christopher is Kathy and John’s son and is stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in OK City. (Kathy, as you can see Chris is doing fine. He sends you a great big hug and kiss.) Speaking of dinner, we ate at Cattleman’s Steakhouse Café and enjoyed the filet! Chris, Bryant and Hazel really enjoyed the house specialty “battered lamb fries.” The only thing I will say about the “lamb fries” is they are not fries at all. You figure it out. Bryant, Hazel and Chris say they tasted just like oysters. Tina and Katie said “no thanks.” Before leaving town we paid a visit to the Oklahoma National Memorial of the Murrah bombing. It was very emotional.
